Happy Birthday Händel & Messiah 23 - 26 Feb 2017

To celebrate the birthday of Händel on 23rd February 1685 in Halle, an international choir of over 400 singers perform the oratorio Messiah. This tradition exists since the year 2000 and all experienced Messiah-singers are welcomed to register, best more than a year prior.

Happy Birthday Händel 2016

Once again we are now looking back upon a wonderful weekend of singing and meeting at the 17th „Happy Birthday Handel“ in Halle in Germany from 25 to 27 Febrary 2016.

13 nations were present at this MESSIAH Choir with 420 singers. The Messiah performance under the lead of Proinnsías O’Duinn, with first class soloists Colette Boushel, Ulrike Schneider, Paul McNamara and John Molloay as well as the Staatskapelle Halle had the capacity filed audience of 1200 standing on their feet. Fun was the perfect entry of the choir.

The Friday performance of participating choirs at “Choir Music From Near And Far” meet a capacity audience in the Ulrichskirche too.

Welcome to Halle, Händel's home town

Halle is at the heart of the "Middle German Baroque Music". This describes the region between Berlin, Dresden and Eisenach where composers of the Baroque Music emerged and worked. Besides Händel, Bach and Telemann there is a multitude of predecessors such as Schütz or followers like Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Wagner.

Händel's Halle looks back over more than 1200 years of history and offers many points of interest to participants of Happy Birthday Händel. First of all there are the "Händel-Sites", Händel's house of birth, now a museum or the Marktkirche where Händel learned to play the organ.
